This clip was hilarious, if you’re used to being around a DCI brass line, that is. The humor is an acquired taste. Andre is pretty funny these days, smiling and keeping everyone on an even keel even in a show warm up situation.
I filmed André and company last year with my Canon 5D Mark II but wasn’t satisfied with the audio reproduction that the Canon provides. I went ahead and invested in a small stereo field recording unit, the Zoom H4N. This thing is a beauty and mounts to the hot shoe of my Canon. My rig stays relatively compact and light, but you can hear a bit of banging as I touch different parts of the monopod and Zoom unit. Still working on a way to mount the audio recorder and keep the sound insulated to the mics rather than letting vibrations from the camera, lens or monopod creep in to the sound.
Did I mention that the Santa Clara Vanguard is an amazing ensemble? Check out this video where they have some light tonguing exercises. I also have one other video from the 2010 Walnut show.

The 2010 DCI season has just begun! For more information on where you can go see a show, check out http://www.dci.org/schedule/
