Wow, I just realized it’s been more than a year since my last posting.  Wait, it’s been nearly two years !  Ouch!

Well, instead of being out here in blog land I’ve been in real life land.  Things are going great, I live in Redondo by the water, am teaching the Crossmen and assisting them with some new media items, and THIS JUST IN, I’ve been invited back on to the mic by my old friend John Clark at his new company the Cyber Sports Network!

StarCraft 2 coverage is what I’m going to dip back into.  My first night out was last week Wednesday, and my expectation going into the night was TOTALLY OFF from reality.  I go in expecting to see low skill jobbers from their site all fighting for $100.  What do I get?

I get CatZ, viOLet, drewbie, Attero, RGNartist, GoSuNamhciR, rsvp & Perfect.  All of which are Code S level players and widely recognized as the best in the world!  Of course, I was certainly surprised… Minutes later I would realize that I in no way would be able to hide my lack of preparation in this situation.

Following this 7-hour foot in mouth debut where I spent most of my time wishing Artosis and Tasteless were with me, I decided that I needed my own Artosis who can drop some good knowledge; and thus — next week will include the addition of Gwin, an experienced SC2 commentator for Check Six Gaming and some other spots.  It was important for me to have someone that could be in the same room as me so that we can avoid the typical delay of remote collaboration tools and get straight to the bitchin’ commentary.  I’m sure this is going to work out extremely well! Stay tuned for The Rundown 2 with Gwin and Rance! :) ))

The DCI 2010 season is proving to be one of the best ever! For those out on the east coast, I’ve got a collection of videos from early season west coast corps so you can see who will be coming to play in Indianapolis this year. Maybe one day I’ll find myself out east with my camera ready to shoot! Until then, I’ll be watching these videos back over and over. Below is my DCI 2010 playlist which includes all videos released from my recording sessions! Facts about recording are below the player.

These videos were captured with the Canon 5D Mark II camera and Zoom H4N Stereo Field Recorder. Big thanks to Mark Arnold, Amil Muzz and Eddie Bernstein of the Blue Knights and George Lindstrom of Ascend Performing Arts for the amazing access to the show fields for your viewing pleasure! Remember guys, please don’t reproduce or sell any of the on field stuff. Just share it like crazy online and enjoy the view!

Do your part to support DCI by purchasing the webcast, the DCI World Championships Blu-Ray and of course, a ticket to your local show!

Blue Devils Brass Line in the lot in Walnut on July 3, 2010

Upon reaching Walnut one question became obvious:  How do the Blue Devils sound on their new King brass instruments in 2010?  After slapping hands with friends and visiting Mandarins, SCV and Pacific Crest on the way over, the Blue Devils horn arc was too tempting to miss. The Zoom H4N recorder captures so much more [...]

This clip was hilarious, if you’re used to being around a DCI brass line, that is.  The humor is an acquired taste.  Andre is pretty funny these days, smiling and keeping everyone on an even keel even in a show warm up situation. I filmed André and company last year with my Canon 5D Mark [...]

André Feagin is one of the most popular adjudicators in the country, and it’s no surprise.  I saw him last year at the Walnut show warming up his brass line and was quite impressed. I made it a point to visit the Vanguard brass in the lot again this year, and I returned with a [...]

Holy Name Cadets: On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss @ San Antonio, TX on July 18, 2009

This video was originally a video that I didn’t plan to release. The original look of this video was strange, and even the final you can see some weirdness in the color space. I found the Holy Name Cadets brass line warming up under the world’s largest yellow light in the parking lot of San [...]

In one of the final stops of my 2009 tour, I managed to get down on the field for a show and record the last part of the opener and almost the entire ballad. Just wanted to see how the Canon 5D Mark II would behave under stadium lights with the 50mm 1.2L, and as [...]

One of the more mature lines, the Bluecoats had a nice crowd following them at the first few shows we shared. I had been on the road for about a week at this time, and I believe the San Antonio show was the third show of my tour thus far. They have attitude, but what [...]

July 13th, 2009 marked my first show day on the road with the Colts in 2009. Eager to test my Canon 5D Mark II in the blazing hot DCI summer sun, I broke it out to hit up some early warm-ups at the Hutchinson, KS show. Luckily the drums were right next to where the [...]
